As part of the current review of the “Global  Approach to Migration” -proposals sould be made before the end of 2011-  the European Commission held on April 11, 2011 a consultation day with stakeholders.  This consultation discussed the specific context of its reflections on the theme Migration and development, as part of the comprehensive approach to migration.

It is envisaged that the series of proposals that will be made could include the broadening of the traditional program of work on migration and development to include other relevant areas, namely how to promote mobility and how to promote the human rights of migrants. These two themes emerged very clearly as areas for greater cooperation and could provide significant benefits in terms of development. The human dimension and social policies on migration and development must also be strengthened through an approach explicitly focuses on the migrant. A discussion paper has been submitted by the European commission and for which stakeholders are invited to submit comments by late may 2011.
