Toog Tekki ("Stay and be Usefuf")
The association ACISI, member of the Spanish platform, support the project Toog Tekki (“Stay and be Useful” in Wolof) carried out by the CODEFES.
In 2009, the Foundation of Senegalese Emigrants (CODEFES) opened a center of information and career guidance in two areas of high emigration in Senegal. These two centers aim to provide an alternative to the potential candidates for emigration. Young people receive an individual support to build their career plans. They also receive training in agricultural techniques or in service sector to increase their employability.Returning migrants are also considered. In Barcelona, the CODEFES collaborate with the Coordination of Associations of Senegalese in Catalonia (ACCS) to inform and assist them in defining their project for the return. In Senegal, they are made aware of the important role they can play as a key development actor in their village of origin.
Results after two years:
- 30 young people have been trained in agricultural techniques and marketing of rice in the regions of Kolda and Matam
- 11 young people have been trained to project management in Dakar
- 23 association leaders of the Catalan region have been trained to co-development
- 1 guide "Return of Senegalese Workers"
